Presentación oficial del Parque Estelar en el Jardín Botánico de Santa Catalina
La puesta de largo del jardín botánico de Santa Catalina como ‘parque estelar’ tendrá lugar este próximo viernes 20 de noviembre con la presentación en sociedad del proyecto. El acto contará con la asistencia de representantes de las administraciones y movimientos sociales involucrados (Ayuntamiento de Iruña de Oca, Diputación Foral de Álava y la Asociación de Amigos del Jardín Botánico), y otras instituciones y entidades.
Es un espacio de conciencia medioambiental, un sitio de recreación, de conservación y de encuentro con la naturaleza. Un modelo de nuevas formas creativas de relación entre los seres humanos y la naturaleza, donde el cielo estrellado juega un papel importante.
Así surge el Parque Estelar Santa Catalina, acreditado por la Fundación Starlight, entidad sin ánimo de lucro surgida del Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) y apoyada por la UNESCO, Organización Mundial del Turismo (OMT) y Unión Astronómica Internacional (IAU). Este proyecto ha sido impulsado por el Ayuntamiento de Iruña de Oca en colaboración con la Asociación de Amigos del Jardín Botánico Santa Catalina y otras entidades privadas que han hecho posible esta denominación.
Los Parques Estelares son lugares situados en zonas ligadas, por lo general, a municipios que protegen su cielo nocturno y que permiten desarrollar en ellos actividades de observación, didácticas, culturales o lúdicas, relacionadas con eventos astronómicos (paso de cometas, eclipses de luna y sol, alineación de planetas, lluvias de estrellas, etc.).
